In 1861 the Wroxall Abbey estate, near Warwick comprising the Abbey and mansion, together with nearly 2,000 acres of land was offered for sale by auction and purchased by James Dugdale of Hart Hill, Pendleton for £93,000. The existing house was subsequently demolished and a new mansion, to the designs of Walter Scott of Liverpool erected on the site c1864-1866. Alice Ida Dugdale was born at Wroxall Abbey in 1866. Walter Scott also designed a number of buildings on the estate, many now listed.
