Joseph Grundy is recorded as a mining engineer and surveyor living in Radcliffe who died in 1883. His sons, Henry Taylor Grundy, a mining engineer, and Edwin Grundy who had trained as an architect continued the business under the style of J Gundy and Sons. Edwin was responsible for a number of architectural commissions and by 1899 the practice had opened an office in Brazennose Street, Manchester.
