In 1857 James Murray entered into a short-lived partnership with E Welby Pugin and moved to London. This partnership was formally dissolved on 29 October 1858.  Together they produced a number of buildings; Almshouses at Albury in Surrey, St Peter’s Church School in Woolwich, the Church of Our Lady and St Hubert at Great Harwood in Lancashire and Croston Hall. However, their joint commissions on the Continent have not been found.

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, Edward Welby Pugin and James Murray, carrying on business at No. 14, Buckingham-street, Strand, In the county of Middlesex, Architects, has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the 29th day of October, 1858 —Dated this 29th day of November, 1858.
