The second son of Alfred Simister, shuttle maker (employing 6 men and 2 boys), Ernest Simister was born at Oldham in 1878 and trained as an architect. About 1912 he joined in partnership under the style of Taylor and Simister with Thomas Taylor and John Alexander Chisholme Taylor. This partnership was dissolved in 1937 after which Ernest Simister practised alone.
