George Henry Pye was born at Penwortham, near Preston, the son of Thomas Barton Pye and his wife Frances Jane. His father was a brewer

About 1908, he entered into partnership with Thomas Percy Bennett, under the style of Pye and Bennett, with offices at 2 Booth Street, Manchester, a partnership which continued for almost 40 years. It was dissolved by mutual consent on 25 March 1947, presumably upon the retirement of George Henry Pye. Thomas Percy Bennett continued the business alone but died in 1950. Their major client during the inter-war period was Hardy’s Crown Brewery Limited.
