John Andrew Towle was born on 29 May 1871 at Broughton Salford, the son of John A Towle, engineer and his wife, Mary Ann. He was articled to a civil engineer in Blackburn and by 1901 was employed as an assistant surveyor in Burnley. He returned to Manchester where he commenced independent practice as an architect surveyor and estate agent. No known works.
