Philip Garland Fairhurst

Philip Garland Fairhurst was born on 22 September 1900 at Wilpshire, near Blackburn, the son of Harry S Fairhurst and his wife Lillian. He graduated from Manchester University School of Architecture in 1924 and joined his father’s practice in 1925. Having visited America in 1928 he returned to Manchester where he joined his father in partnership 1930. He was elected FRIBA in 1939 and became senior partner on the retirement of his father in 1940. He retired in 1967. Like so many architect sons taken into partnership he never really emerged from his father’s shadow.

Philip Garland Fairhurst died on 31 July 1967.
