Ruben Dransfield was born in late 1846 to Richard or Robert Dransfield and his wife, Betty. He was baptised at Oldham Parish church on 20 July 1856. At the age of 14 he was articled to an architect andcommenced practice in 1871, “working off the kitchen table” at his parents’ home. He was first listed as an architect with an office at George Street in the 1875 Oldham directory. Few details of his career are known.
