One of two Super Cinemas built in Levenshulme in the 1930's, the ABC Regal opened on 13 December 1937. However the growth of television resulted in a decline in numbers and the cinema closed in 1961, the last film shown being "Saturday Night & Sunday Morning" and so it was converted to a ten pin bowling alley. Not long after this it was converted again, this time into a bingo hall, which survived until the late 1990's when it was bought by a consortium of businessmen and turned into a cash and carry warehouse, which closed down in April 2001. The building still exists and is now reborn as "The Nawaab" Indian Restaurant & Banqueting Rooms, reputedly one of the largest Indian Restaurants in the UK.
