Atlas Mill Oldham Road Cranbourne Road Waterloo Ashton-under-Lyne
Built between 1898 and 1900, Atlas Mill was a cotton spinning mill in the Waterloo district of Ashton-under-Lyne, designed for the Ashton Syndicate by Sydney Stott of Oldham. It was last mill in Ashton to cease spinning. spinning artificial fibres in 1987. It closed in 1990 and was demolished in 1994; the site is now a housing estate.
NEW MILL AT WATERLOO - Ground has been taken, mainly by the directors of the Rock Spinning Company, for another mill to be erected near the existing Rock Mill to be called the "Atlas." A prospectus will be issued in a few days. The mill is Intended to contain some 70,000 mule spindles, one-third weft. The counts to be spun are from 70's to 50's twist and 50's to 90's weft. ATLAS MILL - The workmen engaged on the new Atlas Mill have now got to the fourth storey. It is intended to fill the mill with machinery for spinning about 80's twist and weft. The single boss roller is to be adopted. [Cotton Factory Times - Friday 7 July 1899 page 6]
