NEW BANKING PREMISES - The work of pulling down buildings in Euston Road and Market Street and erecting new premises for the Bank of Liverpool Limited is to commence immediately. The ground floor of the building will be used entirely for Bank purposes and is to be panelled and finished in dark oak, the floors being of marble mosaic and wood blocks. A large steel strong room is provided. The first and second storeys are arranged for suites of offices named "Bank Chambers." The upper storey is to be occupied as a caretaker's house. The cellars are lined with bitumen sheathing. The frontage will be of ashlar stone, and the main roofs, spires and gablets are to be laid with brindled red tiles, A large flat covers part of the building and is the first introduction into the district of Vulcanite roofing, a fire-resistant system admitting of roof gardening, extra drying ground, etc. The style adopted is that of the English Renaissance from the designs of Messrs Cressey and Keighley, architects, Morecambe, who have also supplied the bills of quantities and will supervise the erection of the building. The work has been closely competed for; 38 tenders were received, the lowest being Messrs. Hatch and Sons of Lancaster, which have been accepted for the whole of the trades.
