The chapel at Clough Fold was first built in the year 1700 and was once under the ministry of the celebrated Dr Isaac Watts. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1838 and again enlarged and much beautified in 1853 at a cost of £1500... It is now a spacious and beautiful Grecian building capable of seating about 1000 persons and was re-opened for public worship on 13 July 1853. Mr Thomas Risley of Manchester was the architect.
