WESLEYAN SCHOOL‑CHAPEL. The foundation stone of the first dissenting place of worship at the new town of St Anne's‑on‑the‑Sea was laid on Easter Monday by John Warburton of Haslingden. The building is intended to serve as a school chapel for some time and is being erected by the Wesleyan body at a cost of £1300. It is of brick with stone dressings and is placed behind the site intended eventually for the new chapel. Messrs Maxwell & Tuke, the architects for the new town are also architects for this. The united dissenting services have up to the present been carried out in a Mission‑room in the centre of the town. [British Architect 13 April 1877 Page 231]
