CHRIST CHURCH, HEATON NORRIS—The alterations and improvements which have been in progress at this church for some months past are now completed, and the building will be re-opened to-morrow afternoon by the Bishop of Manchester. The alterations which have taken place are briefly these, viz., the chancel is lengthened about ten feet, new vestries, with organ chamber above, have been added at the north-east corner, the choir has been removed from the west gallery to the easternmost bay of the nave, where new seats of appropriate design have been provided for them; the west entrance is improved and enlarged, and new windows have been added where this was found to be possible. A new reredos of alabaster and Devonshire marble, executed by Messrs. Earp and Co., of London and Manchester, has been placed in the chancel. The church (excepting the now portions) has re-decorated throughout by Mr. Reuben Bennett, of this city. The general contractor; was Mr. Thomas Shaw, of Longsight; and the architects' Messrs Preston and Vaughan, of 16, Tib Lane, Cross Street, Manchester. [Manchester Guardian 7 April 1882 page 8]
