ECCLESASTICAL INTELLIGENCE - It was decided at a meeting of the Committee for carrying out the extension and alterations of the parochial Chapelry of Christ Church, Walmsley, Bolton, to pull down the present structure and rebuild on an extended plan. The original chapel existed A.D. 1500, but was rebuilt and consecrated in 1840. The plans for the proposed structure, which have been prepared by Messrs. Maxwell and Tuke, architects, of this city, will include new transepts to be added, and chancel considerably enlarged. The present building is in one span, but it is intended to divide this span into nave and aisles, with arcades of stone pillars and arches. It is also proposed to erect a handsome tower and spire. The estimated cost of the new structure, without the tower and spire, will about £5,000. [Manchester Guardian 21 June 1882 page 5]
