Roman Catholic church, of red brick and terracotta with, with Welsh slate roofs. Decorated period influenced Gothic Revival. Stained glass attributed to Margaret Agnes Rope. The adjoining presbytery was also designed by Edmund Kirby.

In 1900 it was agreed that a new church was required to replace the Church of St Philip and St James, deemed no longer adequate to serve the needs of the parish. A plot of land was purchased in Shaw Heath, plans were prepared by Edmund Kirby and on 30 May 1903 the Most Reverend Samuel Allen, Bishop of Shrewsbury, laid the foundation stone. Less than two years later, on 12 February 1905, the Bishop returned to perform the solemn dedication service. The Shrewsbury and Liverpool Almanac of 1904 noted “The new church at Edgeley which is in course of erection, will be in brick and terra cotta, the style being Decorated Gothic. The main feature will be the west elevation, comprising a double entrance a beautiful wheel window in the gable. The north transept will contain a Lady Chapel and confessionals.” By the time the building was completed the Lady Chapel had been replaced by a Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
