Church of St Gregory (RC), Church Street Farnworth

The first church was founded in 1853. A design was prepared for a second church and the building work put out to tender by E W Pugin. the first sod being cut on 19 May 1873. However, when the foundation stone was laid on 16 August Pugin had seemingly been supplanted by Edmund Kirby (qv). The formal ceremony of dedication took place on 12 March 1876, performed by the Bishop of Liverpool. The church closed in 2004.the parish being merged with that of Our Lady of Lourdes, Farnworth. Application for demolition made in 2015.
