Addition

For some time past an effort has been made to raise funds for the extension of the church of St John the Baptist, Broughton, Preston, and over £2,500 has been received in answer to a circular asking for subscriptions. Messrs Austin and Paley, architects, were engaged to draw up plans for the erection of a chancel, organ chamber and vestries. Owing, however, to the prevailing trade prices and the quality of the work required, the amount in hand is insufficient to complete the work. In order to decide what should be done, a parishioners meeting was held this week when it was unanimously resolved not to proceed with the work until £3,500 had been raised, so that the whole of the suggested additions to the east end of the church could be completed.
