PROPOSED NEW ORPHANAGE AT BOLTON - In April of last year, Mr. James Eden, of Astley Bridge, near Bolton, bequeathed the whole of his personal property for the purpose of founding an orphan asylum at Astley Bridge, for children whose parents at the time of death happen to dwell within the area of the Bolton Poor-Law Union. The executors have handed over to the orphanage trustees the sum of £40,000. Of this sum £10,000 is to be expended in the erection and founding of the building. Mr. J. J. Bradshaw, architect, Bolton, has been instructed to report upon the best site for the buildings, and also to prepare the requisite plans. [Builder 11 September 1875 page 829]
