Rochdale’s new fire station in Maclure Road was formally opened on 3 May 1933 by Alderman J Rodley JP, in the presence of the Mayor, Councillor J W Dutton JP, Henry Howarth, the Borough's Chief Constable of Police, the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade, his Second Officer, James Wilson, and others. The station was operated by Rochdale Fire Brigade (1933 to 1941 and 1948-1974) and then by the Greater Manchester County Fire and Rescue Service from 1974 until its closure in 2014. During the war years 1941-1948 it was part of the National Fire Service. The Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum opened to the public in September 1983, in the former workshop building at the rear.
