THE NEW BANK AT ST ANNE'S-ON-THE-SEA - The new building now in course of erection at St. Anne's, by the Lancaster Banking Company. is now rapidly approaching completion and presents a very handsome frontage to the main street in the town—St. Anne's Road West. The slating of the building was completed on Saturday last. The new bank has been erected from the designs of Messrs Paley, Austin, and Paley, of Lancaster. The front is entirely of stone, and of imposing appearance. It is three storeys high. with a roof storey lighted by a projecting window of ornamental design. The door on the ground door is at the left-hand side, leaving a fine clear space lighted by four windows, for bank purposes, with a bank parlour behind. On the first floor is a remarkably handsome room, which might be designated a hall, lighted by five windows, the centre one being an ornamental hanging bay window and supporting an upper carved cornice. This spacious room, if not occupied for bank purposes. would form a valuable addition to the places available for public meetings in the town. The upper storey is lighted by four windows. The house part of the building is very commodious and well arranged, the vestibule on the ground floor entrance having the bank door on the right hand and the house door on the left on entering. The whole exterior design is very neat. and the building has an ornamental and substantial appearance. The stone used in the frontage is, we understand, from the well-known quarries near Halifax. [Preston Herald Saturday 9 April 1892 page 3]
