Built for William Mitchell, a director of William Fison and Company, textile spinners and manufacturers, Burley in Wharfedale. The house was bought by West Riding County Council and added to the adjoining Scalebor Park Hospital complex. By 1919 it had received a large extension to the north west in the style of the rest of the property. (see OS 25 inch map surveyed 1919). High Land became a child and adolescent unit. Also known in the National Archives as Highlands Hospital. This was closed at a similar time to Scalebor Park Hospital. The site is now housing.
