House in Cashio Lane Letchworth Hertfordshire
The house at Letchworth (in Cashio Lane), illustrated, was built upon a site which dictated a very special plan. The client wished to have a window in the living room looking west, out on the road which passed the house. The finest view was out east, but on the north was an orchard into which it seemed a pity not to obtain a peep from the living room. This room had necessarily also to have windows on the south. To gain all these advantages with reasonable compactness of plan was the problem. To do this the living room had to be on the east side of the house, and to be thrown out enough to get north and south windows, and the west window had to be contrived between the other rooms and overlooking the porch.
