NEW METHODIST CHAPEL AT PENDLETON - Yesterday afternoon the ceremony of laying the foundation stones of a new building in extension of the Salem Chapel (Independent Methodist), Ellor Street, Pendleton, was performed by Miss Bedson, Miss Cotton, Miss Lightbown, and Mr. Boote (Liverpool), each of whom assisted in laying one of the stones, and was presented with a silver trowel in commemoration of the event. The present chapel has been found inadequate to the wants of the neighbourhood, and the new one is to be, built on ground adjoining it, at an estimated cost of £1,900, of which about £386 has been subscribed. The new building will be plain and neat in appearance. The plans been prepared by Messrs. Maxwell and Tuke, architects, of Manchester and Bury, and the work will be executed by Messrs Southern and Sons, of Salford. The structure will principally be in brick and tile, of an ornamental character, stone-being dispensed with as much as possible. The fittings will be of pitch pine.
