The Garden City Association was founded in 1900 and in 1902 successfully formed the Garden City Pioneer Company Limited to perform the initial investigations and selection of a site suitable for the implementation of Ebenezer Howard’s ideas of a town built upon and surrounded by agricultural land. A site containing 3,818 acres was selected. First Garden City Limited was registered on 1 September 1903 and granted its first building lease on 16 September 1904.
