At the first entrance the new lodge is a very neat edifice of fire brick with handsome stone pedimented porch and plinth, and the chimneys are faced and capped with stone. This lodge is from a design by Mr J E Gregan. [Manchester Guardian 22 August 1846 page 9]
The eastern entrance on Rochdale Road was the former entrance gate to Hendham Hall. Here the original lodge to the hall was retained.
