Alterations

Alterations -  The interior as a whole was drastically altered, the stonework scraped and coated over with Roman cement, and galleries introduced. Most of the screens which cut off the aisles from the chantry chapels were also removed. (Stewart). Most of his changes have been removed by subsequent restoration. However, The inner faces of the tower north and south walls retain the plastering done by Palmer. (Pevsner - 276n)
