With 580 seats, the Paragon Electric Varieties Theatre was opened in February 1913 by United Electric Theatres Ltd. The site had been earmarked for a cinema use as early as 1910 when it had been included in the prospectus for Lancashire Cinematograph Theatres Limited. However, the share issue failed and the company entered voluntary liquidation in April 1911. At this time its properties were acquired by the United Electric Theatres Limited.

The cinema was held on a lease which expired in 1930 and as such was closed as a silent cinema in January of that year. It was subsequently acquired by Bolton Corporation for street improvements and by 1935 it had been replaced by a shopping arcade.
