The Sackville Estate comprised the land bounded by the Rochdale Canal, Princess Street, Granby Row and Sackville Street. W & G Higginbottom were architects to the Estate Company who appear to have been constructing warehouses for lease. The style of the warehouses was stated as being severe - elaborate architectural features being out of fashion according to the architects. One such warehouse was that of Ph. Ziegler & Company (shipping merchants) at 46 Sackville Street. The Ziegler building had a flat ferro-concrete roof and ferro-concrete stair.
