Proposed Gas Offices, Hotel Street, Bolton
In January1864 it was reported that John Cundall had been selected as architect for the new Gas Offices in Bolton. However, by January 1866 he had been replaced by George Woodhouse as architect. (see separate entry).
NEW GAS OFFICES - The old buildings in Acres Field and Hotel Street have been got down with safety, and the site is now almost cleared for the new erection. We understand that Mr. Cundell (sic), partner with and successor to the late Mr. Murray, architect of St. Paul's Church, top of Deansgate, been selected by the Directors as the architect for the new offices, and is busily engaged upon the design and plans, which were to have been entrusted to the departed artist. With respect to the line of frontage, we have authority for stating that the new building will be only set back sufficiently to be parallel with the next adjoining shops.
