This signed and dated drawing shows the proposed front elevation of a six-storey building which was to face Piccadilly in central Manchester. It was supposed that the building was destroyed in World War 2. However, by reference to the buildings on each side this was intended for 51-53 Piccadilly, a commission obtained by W and G Higginbottom(qv) in 1904. Whether Birkett was also invited to submit proposals as part of a competition is not clear. All three buildings are existent.
