Schools. Chorlton Road Congregational Church

CHORLTON ROAD CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH - This church has recently been considerably enlarged, and on Saturday week the foundation stone of the new schools in connection with it was laid by Mr Henry Lee in the presence of a large number of the congregation. The schools are to be erected on land immediately behind the church. The design of the building will be plain Gothic, and on the ground floor there will be accommodation for 800 children and classrooms above for about 450. The total cost of the enlargement of the church and the erection of the new schools is estimated to be about £8,000 of which about £5,000 has already been subscribed. The contractor for the work is Mr Bird of Bradford-road. Mr Potts of Oldham is the architect. [British Architect 12 February 1875 Page 95]
