“Silverleigh,” 27 Guest Road, Prestwich.
With the coming of the railway in 1879 villa development commenced to the north of Prestwich station. By 1891 the east side of Guest Road was completely built up. A decade later most of the vacant land on the west side had also been developed, “Silverleigh” probably being built on the last available site. Costing £997 (accepted tender) and in a decidedly modern style for its day, it stands almost opposite Francis Maxwell’s own house. Unfortunately, the window frames have been replaced with plastic seemingly to a new pattern of sub-division. It is now within the Poppythorn Conservation area, its gateposts being considered of note.
