These well-designed cottages are being solidly built with Edwards's Ruabon red bricks only 2 inches thick, with dressings of red, white, and flecked Woolton stone pleasantly varied. The bricks are set with wide joints in Barnston lime mortar. The roofs are of green Tilberthwaite slates. The contractors for the work are Messrs. J. & E. Rimmer, of Gateacre. The cottages are being built by Major W. H. Walker in commemoration of the victory of his horse, " The Soarer," in this year's Grand National. [British Architect 25 September 1896 page 218]
