Richard Thomas Beckett

Richard Thomas Beckett was the son of Richard Beckett, timber merchant and Master builder employing about 150 men and boys. He was born at West House Hartford, near Northwich, Cheshire and articled to Paley and Austin between 1886 and 1890, in which year he passed the qualifying examination. He travelled in Belgium Holland and Germany. From April 1890 he was employed in the office of John Douglas before commencing practice on his own account at Hertford, briefly moving to Liverpool, before returning to Chester. He practiced widely in Cheshire and North Wales. In Greater Manchester his design for St Mary Magdalene, Winton, won in competition, was adopted.
