NEW CHURCH AT ABRAM - The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new church at Abram took place on Thursday at twelve o'clock, in the presence of a numerous and respectable assemblage of ladies and gentlemen from Wigan and the neighbourhood, and from Ashton and Warrington. The want of a place of worship, connected With the Church of England, in the township of Abram, has long been felt; this want now about to be supplied. The building is eligibly situated in the township, on a plot of land. part of the Abram Hall estate. It Is intended to be a neat gothic structure, built of brick with stone mountings, to be erected by Mr Garnett, of Penketh, near Warrington. from designs furnished by Mr. Palmer, architect, of Manchester, under the chief superintendence of the Rev. E. Sibon of Ashton. [Manchester Guardian 15 March 1837 page 3]
