St Mary's Catholic Schools Tenter’s Square, Wrexham
NEW CATHOLIC SCHOOLS AT WREXHAM - Yesterday the first stone of St. Mary's new Catholic schools at Wrexham was laid by the Earl of Denbigh, on a site near Tenter's Square, containing, with the playground, 4,780 square yards. The new schools are rendered necessary in consequence of the demolition of the old schools during the construction of the Wrexham and Ellesmere railway. A procession to the site was headed by the Bishop of Shrewsbury (the Right Rev. Dr Knight). The schools are being built from plans prepared by Mr Edmund Kirby, of Liverpool, by Mr Benjamin Owen of Wrexham. They will contain accommodation for 320 children, and are estimated to cost about £2.500. [Manchester Guardian 26 July 1893 page 8]
