POLO PONY STUD STABLES FOR MAJOR WALKER - These picturesque stables are erected for Major W. H. Walker for the accommodation of his polo pony breeding stud (brood mares and young stock), at Gateacre Grange, near Liverpool. The timber framing is of oak left untouched, with cement panels. The roofs are covered with green Tilberthwaite slates. The stable passage and covered space are floored with patent cork paving by Messrs. Young & Co. The interior, which is very nicely treated (see sketch), has pitch-pine woodwork, stained green, and varnished. The fittings have been supplied by Messrs. Musgrave & Co. The contractors for the work are Messrs. Holme & Green, of Liverpool, and the contract was about £2,600. [British Architect 12 June 1894 page 21]
