The corner stone of a new store in connection with this society has been laid at Castleford. The society was formed by about a dozen persons in 1865, when operations were commenced in a small shop. In addition to extensive shops to be used as drapery and grocery stores, there will be a secretary's office, a library, a reading-room and other apartments, the chief of which will be an assembly room capable of containing 450 persons. The buildings have been designed by Messrs Maxwell and Tuke of Bury. The cost of the new store will be about £1,586. [Builder 11 June 1870 Page 473]
