In 1889 Charles E Humphreys prepared a plan elevation and perspective drawing of suggested improvements to the original iron and glass “Crystal Palace” in Derby Arboretum, which had been constructed after the 1845 extension to the park. This was essentially a total rebuild with concert hall under a dome and two single-storey wings, labelled “Winter Gardens.” Although the proposed elevation was illustrated in the Derby Daily Telegraph of 1 May 1889, the idea failed to generate much local interest.

The original building was demolished in the 1890s and has never been replaced.

The plan elevation and perspective drawing by Charles E Humphreys were sold in action in 2012.
