The United Yeast Company started in 1874 in the South of England and by 1915 had 170 distribution centres throughout the United Kingdom. The new extension to the Manchester premises was a building of steel framed construction with floors, staircases and roof of reinforced concrete. It provided warehouse space, a garage and larger offices and was connected to the existing building by a steel bridge over the roadway.
