POULTON WESLEYANISM - THE NEW EXTENSION SCHEME - For some time past extra accommodation has been especially needed both in the Wesleyan Chapel and Sunday School at Poulton and an extension scheme was inaugurated which consummated on Wednesday. The present extensions include the seating accommodation in the church being extended by means of new transepts and choir, by 86 seats. These make a very interesting extension and will materially improve the interior. Bold arches divide both the choir and transepts from the nave and barrel ceilings with moulded panels further enhance the appearance. New pitch-pine seating on modern principles with bench ends for the congregation and also for the choir form part of the scheme. The choir seating is raised and is arranged on either side of the rostrum, this found in practice to be a very convenient arrangement. The present ceiling of the nave is to be stripped and a new panelled ceiling with mouldings will take its place. Immediately behind the choir three new classrooms, varying in size, are to be provided and these include the new minister's vestry on one side and tea-room with boiler, cupboard and sink on the other side of the choir.

The new school on the north side will be 37 feet by 25 feet, providing accommodation for about 200 scholars, completes the scheme. This will be well lighted and ventilated and has a deep red brick dado. with pitch-pine moulds, plastered walls and lofty ceiling spanned by steel arched principals. The school and classroom floors are to be laid with “Enborolith” on concrete foundations. Ample means of ingress and egress are provided with doors opening outward. The buildings will be heated on the low-pressure system with pipes and radiators, and inlet and outlet ventilation will be provided in all rooms. The architects for the building are Messrs Potts, Son and Hennings FRIBA, Birley Street, Blackpool, also Bolton and Manchester, whilst the builders are Messrs D Walton and Company, Thornton and Pendleton.
