MORECAMBE PIER & PAVILION COMPANY LIMITED - At a shareholders meeting of the Morecambe Pier Company Limited it was agreed that the company should be wound up and reconstituted as the Morecambe Pier and Pavilion Company Limited. The new company would widen the pier from 21 feet to 40 feet and erect a pavilion thereon. The prospectus noted an agreement dated 25 February 1897 between the new company and John Littlewood and Henry Littlewood practising as Mangnall and Littlewoods. On the 27th ult the first pile was driven of the new Morecambe Pier. In place of the present pier which is 20 feet wide, one of double the width with a pavilion thereon is being constructed from the designs of Messrs Mangnall and Littlewoods, Manchester, the Widnes Iron Foundry Company being the contractors.[Builder 6 November 1897 p380]
