BURY YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION - Sir Henry James QC MP visited his constituency on Saturday and, in conjunction with the mayoress of Bury (Mrs Horridge), laid the memorial stones of the building which is in future to be the home of the Bury Young Men’s Christian Association. .... The new building will occupy an excellent position at the corner of Eden Street and Rock Street. Inclusive of furniture the cost, we understand, will be about £3,000. There is to be a gymnasium and library attached to the institution, together with a lecture hall capable of holding four hundred persons. The structure will be of brick with stone dressings, and will have an octagonal projecting window at the angle with a turret above. The designs are by Messrs Maxwell and Tuke, architects of this city, and the contract has been let the Mr J Comfort, builder, Bury. Report continues with details of speeches, etc.
