HASLINGDEN - The Haslingden National Schools, built some years ago by Mr Holmes, of Bury, having been found too small for their work, the architects, Messrs Maxwell and Tuke of Bury, have, by lengthening out the two original rooms, and adding new infants' school‑room, class‑room, and offices, gained the requisite accommodation. Great care has been taken throughout the work to keep the new works in perfect accord with the original design - a point which too often gets overlooked in alterations of this description. THE NATIONAL SCHOOLS, HASLINGDEN - The enlarged national schools are now opened for educational purposes. The handsome old schools, built some years ago by Mr Holmes, of Bury, have been found too small for their work, and the architects Messrs. Maxwell and Tuke, of Bury, have, by lengthening out the two original rooms, and adding new infants' schoolroom, classroom, and offices, gained the requisite accommodation, and have at the same time added to the picturesque appearance of the building. Great care has been taken throughout the work to keep the building in perfect accord with the original design, a point which too often gets overlooked in alterations of this description. The schools are now tabulated as first class by the Government inspector. [Blackburn Standard  Wednesday 15 May 1872 page 2]
